Our first day of trekking went well. Our flight from Kathmandu to Lukla was about and hour late and we arrived to glorious sunshine at one of the world’s smallest airports. The plane was a twin otter which carried about 25 people and luggage. Noisy cabin and the cotton wool on offer did little to dampen the noise of the twin engines.
We had decided that for our first day we would only trek a short while. So we stopped about 1.30pm to the most delightful guest house in a small village called Chepplung. We were the only guests and the family owners were lovely people.
The guest house had been rebuilt since the 2015 earthquake and the family told us about the main quake and the 450 aftershocks the village lived through. We could not imagine such an experience.
Already the nights are colder and require several layers to stay warm.
In the morning we got our first mountain glimpse which you can see from our picture. More news soon as we head towards Namche Bazaar.
