Today is Christmas Eve. We woke in our new house sit, about 15 minutes south of Chiang Mai old city in a leafy quiet road. The house is an old traditional Lanna teak house. Wooden beams, open plan, high ceiling and very airy. The owners, Caroline and Etienne are trusting us with their much loved cats, Chippie and Bougna for ten days whilst they go to Myanmar for Christmas and New Year. Etienne is an architect, artist, and furniture maker, so the house is a visual delight.
We are really happy that Clare’s mum, Margaret, can share Christmas with us. She arrived on Thursday and we are all now very comfortably settled in our new abode. Caroline and Etienne kindly took us to stock up on groceries in their yellow Land Rover, cooked us an amazing Thai meal for supper, and departed at lunchtime today. Tonight Noel and Clare had their first go at a Thai red curry, with ingredients from the market. It was pretty good, though room for improvement.
Tomorrow we hope to go to a Christmas Day service at the International School, if we can get there!
