Planning ahead, how will 2021 end… and 2022 begin?

We have had a busy year. One of things we have been working on in the background is getting to Australia.

Clare was granted her permanent spouse visa back in May, we originally planned to fly into Perth in October. Delta variant, Qantas and low quota numbers into Western Australia put an end to that plan.

We booked another flight (thankfully through Shelley at DialAFlight, who has been kind and patient) to Perth on 5 January 2022. That was diverted to Darwin and looked like we would have to pay for a 14 night quarantine before considering how we get to Perth.

Now we have to contend with Omicron variant and the likelihood that getting into Australia is going to get more difficult. So decision time!

Here we go. We have brought our flight forward to 20 December and arrive in Darwin on 21 December. If we are lucky we won’t have to quarantine, if we are unlucky we will have 14 nights in a donga in Howard Springs. The mid point is a 7 night quarantine in an Airb&b.

After that we need to get to Perth, but borders between the Northern Territory and Western Australia are just changed risk status, which would mean a 14 night quarantine in Perth when we arrive. The risk level may change higher or lower and entry requirements will change again. Watch this space… we do everyday!

Grace will stay in storage in the UK. We cannot bear to part with her, but the process of shipping is a bridge too far.

Meanwhile on Saturday 4 December it is our first wedding anniversary and we return to Beggars Knap where we had our reception a year ago. Most exciting.
